Since 1974, l’École de français has offered a French immersion program with a long-standing history of excellence, helping students to learn all levels of French and get acquainted with the culture of the Province of Québec.

About Rivière-du-Loup

The 100% French-speaking community of Rivière-du-Loup is located on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, some 400km east of Montreal, 200 km east of Québec City and less than 100 km from the United-States border. 

With a population of over 19,500, Rivière-du-Loup lies in the heart of the beautiful Lower St. Lawrence Region. 

Rivière-du-Loup has always been a popular vacation area and was the summer home of Canada’s first Prime Minister, Sir John A. MacDonald.

The Cégep de Rivière-du-Loup boasts excellent sport and recreational facilities, a cultural centre, field and track installations, a beach volleyball court and a library.  There is also a music school within a short walking distance.

The environment

Rivière-du-Loup is located on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River some 200 kilometers east of Quebec City, 100 kilometers (60 miles) from the State of Main USA and New Brunswick. The city has stood out as a tourist destination of choice for more than a hundred years.  Thanks to its majestic landscapes, the multitude of sports activities offered and its vibrant cultural scene, it offers the feeling of a small northern riverside city in the beautiful Bas-Saint-Laurent region.

Our programs

2023 Spring and Summer Terms havebeen cancelled

L’École de français offers two 5-week French Immersion programs every year.  The Spring term is intended for university students and adults (18+ years old) and the Summer term is for highschool students (16 – 17 years old). 

The same academic program is offered for both terms. However, several other elements of the program are different. For example, there are specific activities and excursions for Spring Term and Summer Term.

High school students

Summer term

The 5-week French Immersion Summer term program is intended for high school students (16 – 17 years old). Within the academic program, there are specific activities and excursions to the program.
